Kalei received her BA from Whittier College and her MSc from California State University Fullerton. She is currently a fourth year PhD candidate within the Fleischman Lab. Her research interest lies in investigating the roles and mechanisms of clonal competition in hematopoiesis. The central goal of her work is to steer a hematologic malignancy towards a more benign outcome by exploring the competitive advantage Tet2 -/- cells and their ability to dampen the expansion of malignant clones and in turn decrease the clinical burden as a result.
