Kalei completed her bachelor's in cellular molecular biology at Whittier College where her work focused on elucidating the anti-cancer effects an unknown plant-derived compound called ZHE had on the viability of prostate cancer cells. She then went on to complete her master’s in cellular molecular biology at California State University, Fullerton where her research focused on the transcriptomic analysis of zinc transporters in Mucolipidosis Type IV (MLIV) mouse model. As a PhD student joining the Fleischman lab, Kalei is interested in studying the CALR mutations found in MPN patients and understanding the impact that these mutations have on hematopoietic stem cells.
